The show was absoultely KILLER!!!!!!!!! And James was definately on FIRE tonight he was happy as hell and hangbanging like a madman. DM songs were fantastic live, the lasers and the coffin lights were very cool, and we had huge pits on both ends of the stage.. The sides get a little to cramped up for pits but were jumping up and down the whole night... Great night....

They should play Fade To Black instead of The day That Never Comes...

why would they do that? TDTNC is a great tune that is on this current record. If anything they should play more from DM and less from Black.

i agree that even in the 04 tour, which was really balanced except for a heavy Black Album presence- sandman, unforgiven, sad, roam, nem, i wanted a few different choices.
I wish they would pull NEM- just a slow downer song, and until it sleeps is the equivalent of the 04 tours Disappear, both of which i could do without. Also could pass on Roam for something heavier. If they want to kill it, do more Justice album. Love Harvester (got it in Charlotte in 04)- would be a perfect replacement for Roam. And SHortest Straw. I think Seek is a staple song, but move it around. I hope they do switch up and get to All Nightmare and Judas Kiss by the time they get back from EUR and come to the south, cause those are my 2 favorites off the new album. Like the idea of closing with My Apocolypse or Blackened. As repetitive as it would be, I still love the build and energy it has a the opener. One and Day that Never Comes are very similar in composition. Not sure if they can not do one of them. I am not crazy about the covers they always throw in from Garage Inc., but I understand where I think they are coming from- those are covers they love from back in the day of getting started, jammin in garages, etc. So, they throw them in to have some personal fun and keep it fresh. I think as fans we can afford them that right. I am guesisng that these posts will get read by someone and maybe recommendations will get made. |

Im still stunned that Creeping Death wasnt the opener lol..or even on the set list at all
I fucking love creeping death and its amazing live but im really glad one of the staples got dropped, pity it wasnt sad but true instead lol. I htink all the staple songs of the setlists are fantastic but its good to change it around, just stop eneding every fucking show with seek now!! lol |

at this point in their career, there should be no 'staple songs' on the setlist. i read all the complaints of vavoing nem/sad/one/sandman in the same place in the same order. i could do without these. drop one and replace it with tdtnc. replace nem with unforgiven 3. replace sandman with anything, and replace sad with anything. seek is another one of those staple songs that, if it doesn't drop, then at least move it around.

Wow, 4 songs off TBA and 5 off DM. the songs off DM are understandable, but when they have a multitude of albums to pick from why 4 off TBA? especially not choosing Unforgiven or Of wolf of man. I'm so sick of enter sandman. please play fwtbt in kc

Man I hope that isnt what the set will look like in January when they hit Philly. Don't get me wrong i cant wait to see Metallica live again but I really would love to hear a mix of blackened, battery, frayed, FWTBT, ride the lightning, fade to black, sanitarium, dyers eve, damage inc.

I'm not a huge fan of this setlist, but it's still just the first official concert of the tour and we know they're going to change things up (start with the encores, please), so I'm not too concerned.

they should get rid of until it sleeps, frantic and last caress from the setlist, and add sanitarium, creeping death and for whom the bell tolls. cant believe they left out creeping death - it should be in every metallica gig

Ok guys. my thoughts on last night...
The sound was amazing, seriously. They really sound incredible, anyone who is going to these shows is in for a treat. Now my only qualm is the setlist. Honestly, the show I saw in 2004 had a FAR SUPERIOR setlist. I mean I like Death Magnetic, but nowhere near their classic 80's albums. To put it bluntly I go to Metallica shows to see material off of Kill 'Em All, Ride the Lightning, Puppets and Justice. This show was about 50% Death Magnetic, 30% Black Album, 10% Load, and 10% everything else. It seems like St. Anger sucking balls as an album really helped out the 2004 Setlists since they knew no one wanted to hear anything off St. Anger, forcing them to play almost all classic songs. All in all it was still a shitload of fun (as it should be), but beware unless you REALLY REALLY love Death Magnetic, you will not be seeing many of the classics. |

So, in one post, the set list was as according to MT Killa:
1. Life 2. End of the line 3. Sad 4. Roam 5. One 6. BB&S 7. Cyanide 8. Frantic 9. Until it Sleeps 10. Four Horsemen 11. Day that never comes 12. Master 13. Fight Fire 14. NEM 15. Sandman 16. Seek Is that right? What about The Sword? What was their set list, or is talking about someoneelse's setlist not kosher here? I'm a newbie. How long was their set? How about solos? Guitar has one in every song, but I'm sure Lars got his, and Trujillio may have. Did the new stage style work well in the round? This post has been edited by ronsaxx: 10/22/08 10:43 am |

this set list completely sucks, I hope they switch it up before Jan. I understand them playing songs from DM, but not playing some of their best and replacing them with frantic, sleeps and nem??? no creeping death, battery, blackened, sanitarium....HUGE mistake in my opinion.

The most important thing to me will be if they came out to the ecstacy of gold and it was the version from the movie not their version. This litterly will make my day if they do

For me the setlist is a huge disappointment. Way too much Death Magnetic, don't need BBS or TWJYL. Only one song off of ...AJFA, RTL, and MOP each. Only 1 from Load and nothing from ReLoad. At least they threw one St. Anger song in there and I'm glad it was Frantic. Way too much Black Album, don't need Sad but True or NEM. Overall I'm very let down by this setlist, I'm hoping they change it up by January.

I felt somewhat let down but I had so much fun jamming to the songs they played that I did love (Master,Seek,Horseman,FFWF,One). I just find it so funny they keep playing Sad But True and Enter Sandman, these songs are so played out (and not especially noteworthy in the first place) in my not so humble opinion. I really wanted to hear Ride the Lightning.
The other thing was Ticketmaster fees. For fucks sake, this really was a thorn in my balls. The ticket itself was $55 (which I was completely ok with), but then what do you know, it gets turned into a $75 ticket after their fees. Fuck that. |

This is stupid. Yeah, Black album was big here in America, along with Load, but that doesn't mean there aren't some old school fans out there Metallica. Really hope you stop dumbing down your setlist when you come here. Don't spoil the Europeans. They get to see you almost every year, and when you finally decide to come to America, you put in a bunch of post-black album songs along with not even playing Creep or Bells.

In fairness they are promoting DM so 4-5 songs from DM is about right...they have 8 other albums which they can pluck 13 more songs off so they are not going to please everyone...i do think that they should drop songs like until it sleeps which for me just doesnt work live and frantic... ialso think they should drop the cover songs and play an old classi instead my ideal set for the Lonodn Show would feature the following songs Seek, Motor Bellz, Fade Master, Battery One, Harvestor Sandman, Roam, Nothing Bleeding Memory TWJYL,BBS, TDTNC,ANL, Cyanide |
