Mercury Records confirmed new albums from Metallica, U2 and Noah and the Whale, which will all contribute towards a good year for the record label.
UK label president Jason Iley said: "2013 could be one of the best years Mercury's ever had."

4 years for a "hasty" follow up to No Line On The Horizon sounds about right for U2.

Well, makes sense. That's five years after DM came out.

Think Mercury is a distributor. Don't ask me what the difference is but there is one.

Yeah I think they are going to do the album themselves, but are using labels for distribution. Labels wont argue, imagine the money and the status you'd get from carrying a Metallica album.

I agree with December 2013 as a possibility. Either then or early spring 2014 would be my guess.

Anyone else find it odd that huge names like Metallica and U2 are mentioned in a short sentence at the end of the article? Not that this was much of an article, though. Nothing against Arcade fire, it just seems like a new Metallica album is a little more monumental, no?

Well you've got nothing to write about Metallica's new album if there is no information about it really.

Awesome, this drag could very well be due to them not having a record deal, and Mercury is a record label for those wondering.

SO the obvious launch would be fall/Christmas season 2013....Seems soon considering they haven't even gone to the studio to record yet. I guess they hopefully stop touring and record everything this fall. That would setup nicely for a launch in late October early November next year?

Yea, like I said before, Kirk said in an interview they are focusing on the new album this fall after the touring is done.

You're high on glue. That's how bout that...

No band finishes recording in June and releases in August. One of my favorite bands finished recording in May/June and their album wont be out until October 9th.

Like clipping hedges, it takes time to properly clip an album.

I reckon The Sword have the system down perfect. Road tested all their new material this year, perfected it, have gone into the studio to record them this month, plan to have the album out in October as they start the supporting tour. It can be done quicker, and I think Metallica could learn from that example.

They kept talking about how the studio became a place of execution not writing when making DM, and yet it still took them the better part of two years.

No record deal? Metallica has been with Elektra/Warner Bros. since 1984. Have I missed something?
