I think its very sad that he still can make these kind of negative statements, even when he doesnt maybe tought he makes one. I personally also am kind of disapointed how he speaks about Ron on some interviews about FILLMORE, also he looked disrespectful to him on FILL. And this is nothing against Mustaine, I have all the Megadeth records and have been listening their great music many many years, just in case somebody thinks Im only whining about things:)

DAVE MUSTAINE Says Playing With METALLICA Again Was 'Magical'

"I played four or five songs with them [at the Fillmore show] — just me, James [Hetfield], Lars, Robert [Trujillo] and Kirk was over on the side," Mustaine tells Chicago Sun-Times. "Kirk didn't look too happy about it, but I think he was a good sport.

"I think you can see from the way the guys lit up that it was mutually beneficial for everybody. We all expected something magical to happen, and it did. We were playing stuff off the first record that I'd written in my teenage years. It was a blast."

When asked if there is any chance of a future collaboration between him and the members of METALLICA, Mustaine said, "I would certainly look forward to another opportunity with those guys. The competition is done. I'd love to do a record with James, Lars and [MEGADETH bassist] Dave Ellefson, but I don't know if it’s in the cards. Maybe a single for charity or something."

He makes sure to throw in that he wrote the songs, too. Haha. Whatever, that wasn't as bad as he used to be.

Kirk did look "upset" but he was just concentrating hard on all the songs they were playing. And I remember in one of the songs (don't remember if it was Jump in the Fire or Metal Militia) he goes next to Dave multiple times and smiles while they where playing together and soloing and all the other stuff that was going on. So Kirk wasn't upset, I think he was happy with it. And I would love for a Metallica/Megadeth album \m/

Oh Dave, you so crazy.

It's funny, while he says the competition is gone - this statement is only going to get twisted into many a "fuck Kirk, he hated the idea of Dave playing at the anniversary shows, playing the music he wrote oooaghhhhh" comment from the diehard Megadeth fans in the endless Metallica vs. Megadeth debates that continue on forums, blogs, and videos to this day. That's all on him and always has been.

He still has a big ego though. He only co-wrote 4 songs on KEA and Metallica used 2 ideas/riffs of his on Ride the lightning. So he has balls saying he WROTE those songs, the only one he really made was The Macanix which James and Lars took and made better IMO

Than Again maybe he was just speaking loosely and didn't mean he fully wrote the songs but help write them. I want to believe the second.

I'd vote for the second option. He did say "stuff I wrote" as opposed to "songs I wrote." I don't think he was trying to imply the material was all his.

I agree with you I just wanted to point out he could have meant the opposite, he dosnt have the best track record. But I interpret it both ways I choose to believe he meant it the you pointed out.

What gets me is him acting like the "Metallica lineup with Dave Mustaine" is the seminal lineup of Metallica. You were in the band for 5 minutes dude, and they didnt sell 100 million records because of the damn Mechanix. Get over yourself.

Well, they got their record deal and gained popularity with Mustaine in the lineup, so there is something seminal there. And people like Brian Slagel have stated how Mustaine was the only one in the beginning who really knew how to play his instrument. I think the fact that he got kicked out right before they recorded KEM undermines his actual influence.

Interestingly, there was an interview right after the Fillmore shows where Dave explained how he didn't know what to expect from the performances and who would play what and Kirk went up and just said: "Dude, you should play all the solos!" and now we got this quote saying that "Kirk didn't look too happy about it". Could've been taken out of context, or he just formulated something really careless. But immediately people are jumping onto the old feud bandwagon again

But who knows how long he would have lasted in the band anyway. Or how long the band would have lasted with him in it. He was kicked out for a good reason.

Of course he was, I never denied that. But we're deny him any influence or importance for the band, when we just look at it in hindsight and know that he got kicked out 2 hours before they were supposed to record KEM. That's what I was adressing

As usual, third parties will exaggerate this statement. Both Mustaine and Kirk enjoyed that concert.

Mustaine looked a lot less happy than Kirk, but then he doesn''t exactly look like a jigging jolly riverdancer at his own concerts, so , y'know...

At any rate, the man appears to be bitter to the core, even though he goes through periods of trying to shake it, so it's not too surprising that he will occasionally, and possibly inadvertently, come out with stuff which seems loaded or bitchy. On the Mustaine Meow-O-Meter, this is barely a 1, and may have nothing ill-willed behind it at all.

Dave, be proud what you have accomplished without Metallica, a great band with millions of albums sold, if that's how he measures success.

How many songs did Mustaine play with Metallica at the Filmore shows? Was there more than wha'ts on the audio recordings?

Seems to me like Dave still has some unresolved issues with metallica still.

Issues Issues Pass the Tissues.
Mustaine is back on top and he can say whatever he wants about Kirk.

Kirk knows who Kirk is and that's all that matters.

Mustaine is making great music while he has been mad. I say keep him mad, makes for a great headliner;)

Depending on what the charity was...might not be a bad idea.

Dave has no idea how talented he is.

Dave, youre a beast, no doubt, but Kirk is a far more superior guitar player than you. At least a far better lead guitarist for Metallica...than you!!! Without his airy alien leads on the ballads, those songs would be less than they are. Dave would have just blasted fire-y balls out leads to the songs. Thats fine, but without the subtleties & shade Kirks leads possess Metallica wouldnt be as great. Plus they dont call him the ripper for nothing. Glad you got to live out youre lil fantasy finally, but dont take away from Kirk to build yourself up man.

 What?
Dave is immensely superior to Kirk, as of now, at lead guitar, and guitar at general. It's debatable who's better at writing and composition, leadwise tho. Kirk used to be for sure, but both have lost their sense of melody and phrasing it seems. And creativity in general.
Maybe they call him the ripper because he used to fart a lot in the tuning room.

Dave is all show off and no emotion...Kirk has some crazy emotion when he plays.Yes Dave is technically a better player he can play anything but he's all about substance in his playing no heart. I'd take kirk anyday. Just look at fade or sanitarium so much emotion from Kirks playing
