4. The Day that Never Comes
5. All Nightmare Long
6. Hell and Back
7. The Unforgiven III

9. Suicide and Redemption
10. Rebel of Babylon

What about you?

Agreed, in the sense that I will now look at it as a double album - though I haven't really given a lot of thought to which spot I would place the new songs. I'm not taking any of the original 10 off.

i wouldnt change them because the 4 songs dont work with the others. DM was more thrashy, albeit a bit forced thrash imo. these songs were more heavy metal with deeper and darker lyrics. and their subject matter wasnt exactly the same as DM except for maybe bullet.

im glad we had DM the way it was, and the EP for what it is. they are all great songs, they are just better the way they are. the 4 songs compliment each other nicely and dont really work well with other DM songs.

3. The Day That Never Comes
4. All Nightmare Long
5. Cyanide
6. The Judas Kiss
7. Just A Bullet Away
8. Suicide & Redemption
9. Rebel of Babylon

I am limiting to 9 songs because I am pretty sure I am close to the limits of a CD at this point.

Agreed. To my ears, these extra songs just didn't fit with the others that made final cut. They're a nice little between albums bonus, and interesting to hear, but that's about it. For me anyway. What I do think would be a neat idea, would be if they reissued the DM album without the digital distortion and with a bonus disc containing these other songs. Now, that would be cool.

This is a tough question. None of the new songs were that great in my opinion, but there's some really weak songs on DM too. Think it would be something like this:

That Was Just Your Life
The End of The Line
Broken Beat & Scarred
The Day That Never Comes
Rebel of Babylon
Just Another Bullet
The Unforgiven III
Hell and Back
Suicide & Redemption
My Apocalypse

Now that I look at the list, I think it made the album evidently better.

I agree, "the feel" is totally different with these four extra songs.

Bells sounds nothing like Fight Fire or Fade. So which one of those would you have left off RTL?

DM wasn't a concept album.

The Day That Never Comes is about abuse. Broken, Beat & Scarred is about not giving up. Neither is about death.

I'm surprised with so many people taking of BBS (which I always thought was considered one of the strongest on DM) and LEAVING on TU3 (considered the weakest). My list would go something like

1. That Was Just Your Life
2. The End of the Line <---maybe Hate Train. I used to hate TEOTL but it's grown on me.
3. Broken Beat and Scarred
4. The Day that Never Comes
5. All Nightmare Long
6. Cyanide
7. To Hell and Back
8. Just a Bullet Away
9. Suicide and Redemption
10. My Apocalypse

I know lol.
But in all seriousness, yeah, Bellz sounds nothing like the Fight or Fade. Day doesn't sound anything like BB&S or Nightmare either, correct. Yet they all do fit the vibe of the album. The 4 BM songs do not.

Except that the three songs from RTL are head and shoulders above the four leftover songs you're comparing them to. If I had to choose a song to leave off of RTL, it would be Ktulu. But, it would be just that, left off. I certainly wouldn't replace it with some under cooked (though interesting) outtakes from the same sessions.... Which is what these four newly released songs sound like to me. And besides, "feel" and "style" are two completely different things. It's obvious why Metallica vetoed these songs from the final album, no matter what we, the fans, may think.

On the same note, if I were to have a say in removing songs from DM, it would be TDTNC and MA. But, it wouldn't be to make room for any of these other songs. I will say, these four songs seem to compliment each other. If Metallica had more songs in the same vein as these four, that would be one thing. But, to my ears, they just don't sound like they even came from the same place as the songs that made DM. Concept albums, or not, RTL, DM or any other Metallica album contain sets of songs that sound like they belong together. These newly released songs sound like a whole different vibe from anything previous. Sorry if you don't agree.
