How would you feel if they included the full versions of both solos on the album, just like this?

I personally would've loved it.

Maybe I'm too used to hearing it as it is, but I like the shortened version better.

Composed vs "Lively". Lars is insane

Anyway, regarding the full Kirk solo, there was enough there to make a better "final" version than they did imo, but whatever

^ I agree. I actually kinda like the part Kirk plays at 1:46 until the end.

But yeah, James definitely owned.

To clarify, there are two versions of S&R, right? The retail version with part of James' and Kirk's solos, and then the GH version with the extended solos. Is that it?

There are two GH versions: JH and KH. This means you can't play the album version on Guitar Hero, since the song is split up.

So technically, there are three versions. Someone just made a video and pasted the two solos together. I wish he'd upload the whole song like that.

The rest of James solo doesn't seem to add anything. In the shortened version, it climaxes and ends on high note, before sending off into Kirk's. Here, it climaxes, then continues, and repeats the lick that ends it in the shortened version, to 're-climax' or something. And Kirk's extended... yeah... don't need to say anything.

This is one of my favorite songs on the DM album. I think the choice to wrap it like it is was brilliant. I enjoy hearing what they do outside of the finished product at the same time. Everything on the album is outstanding. I wouldn't change a thing.

Heh. You said "climax."

Anyway, I personally think that this is probably the third or so best song on the album. Not only that, but it's waybetter than (Anesthesia) Pulling Teeth. Face.

lol for the longest time I actually thought that first solo was Kirk and the 2nd was James! I shoulda known the wahwah pedal means Kirk has entered the fray.

I like both solos -- a) I didn't know James could shred like that, really raises my admiration level!
b) even tho ppl complain about Kirks wah, here it worked so well. I love Kirks wahwah work actually, but here it was really awesome.

I know why they slowed it down. James laid his frantic solo first, then Kirk came in and knew he had to contrast it, so his was slower with more bends & wahs. It works great - great contrast & change of pace. Excellent musicianship on both their parts.

HOWEVER - they really should've overlaid the solos one on top of the other like they did on the Guitar Hero 3 special edition of DM. That was awesome!
