Even if DM didn't have terrible sound quality issues from its mix, some of my friends are similarly irritated that it's so much louder than everything else on their playlist. The loudness war reached a point where even people who weren't concerned with clipping and compression just couldn't stand how loud the album was.

You know you can turn down the playback volume automatically by song/album right?

Anyway, why would they need to remaster it? It was only released a couple of years ago..........

It could have something to do with the fact that it's mixed too loud, but then again, Metallica never make mistakes, so enjoy!

A remastered AJFA and DM would not make a difference.... sure you could lower the volume on DM and play with the EQ on AJFA, but neither would do what you're thinking it would. In fact, AFJA on iTunes is remastered and you still can't hear the bass very well.

Both albums would have to be fully remixed, not remastered.

No, but I might consider a remixed one. Well, I'd download a remixed version. They've already got my money for that album.

Slightly off topic: Does the DM version that comes with the Nimes DVD sound better in soem aspects? I mean, seeing how great of a job Greg Fidelman did on that DVD or the Mexico one as far as mixing, I'd think he maybe fixed something here and there on the DM disc.

If the record is mixed in red-line and makes noise because it was mixed that way it has nothing to do with your volume knob. IN FACT, if DM (and most modern cd's) where mixed with a higher dynamic range and some headroom you would be able to play it LOUDER and still have it clear.

So, by nature of the way it's mixed/mastered it sounds like it blasting to the point of distortion even at the lowest volume.

Fuck, did I just explain all that shit again.

Definitely would. I haven't bought the album, since I loathe the sound quality of it.

Edit: The first sentence is referring to a remixed version of it.

Anyway, yeah, if something needs to be remixed, it's not DM, it's AJFA. We already have more than enough amazingly remixed versions of Death Magnetic.

Not to mention AJFA is regarded as Metallica's best album.

but even as terrible as justice is, i find it more listenable than the best sounding guitar hero rip, because the drums sound good, the vocals sound good, the guitars sound incredible, and the bass sounds good (its just hiding). with DM, every instrument sounds like garbage (except robs bass, he sounds great and plays great too), and the vocals hurt my ears, even on the best GH rip.

Only among the major Metallica fans. Metalheads otherwise generally consider MOP their best.

Not so for me. The guitars sound awesome alone, on just the stems. But on the album, *in comparison*, they sound watered down. Also, I can't stand the guitars' constant buzz and hum when playing em in the car or on a decent sound system. The drums don't particularly appeal to me much either. They're boxy, and generally dull and colorless. They sound like a demo's mix tbh.
Vocals are alright, kinda drowned out by the guitars a bit tho.

But even to those like you who find it more listenable than DM, we have amazing versions of DM already, as I said. Im willing to bet even if it was remixed, Fidelman would make it sound dry and boring.

as good as puppets is, the guitar work on justice blows its face off. shortest straw in particular has some of the best riffs ive ever heard. the part before the solo, jesus fuck that riff is so awesome.

I agree, don't get me wrong. I just meant the general consensus among metal and rock fans is that MOP is best.

That's also usually true for Metallica fans as well.

Justice is usually a close second, so say most of the polls I've seen on here.

Perhaps, but those polls seem to win due to a couple unusual members on here who lurk and whatnot. Most of the regular posters seem to agree that Justice is best from what I've seen. IIRC.

It's the only Metallica record I didn't buy, but I would happily drop the $$ on a listenable version.

I'm failing to understand why you are coming up with excuses.

I would by a remix only because I collect Metallica. I like the LOUD.

DM would nt be the same any different.
All those so called remixes from the GH games make DM sound weak.
The only thing that does bother me is when I have friends over & play my computers
playlist and a DM song comes on, I do have to run over & lower it. But thats all.

actually, they sound the opposite of weak. there are a lot of riffs you just cant even tell exist on the retail because its all a distorted mess, how the fuck is that not weak?

weak? come on i'm sure most people now have decent PC Speaker or HiFi that can even make THe Beatles 1960 album sound LOUD with a little tweak of thing that called 'volume knob'.
